Whether you are looking for a complete, easy to make holiday dinner recipe or searching for an easy weeknight meal, you are going to love this Sheet Pan Ham Steak Dinner Recipe. Ham, potatoes, and green beans all cooked together on a single pan in the oven.
However, instead of cooking a large holiday ham that could feed a dozen people, this recipe calls for a ham steak. It is the perfect size cut of meat to get dinner on the table when you are feeding 2-4 people.
If you aren’t familiar with them, you can usually find ham steaks stocked in the refrigerated meat section at the grocery store. They are usually in an air-tight plastic package and weigh approximately 1 – 1 1/5 pounds.
Although you can find both bone in and boneless ham steaks and could use either cut of meat to make this recipe, for most flavor be sure to purchase a bone in ham steak. Because the ham has already been cooked with the bone still attached, it will be much more flavorful than the boneless steaks.
Then during the baking process, you will add a simple, yet delicious ham glaze to the top surface. The end result, the most delicious piece of ham that you have ever had!
The Best Ham Glaze For Your Ham Steak Dinner
As much as I like Honey Glazed Ham that is infused with orange juice, I find that a simple 4 ingredient glaze works best with sheet pan ham steak. Because you won’t be basting the ham in this recipe you need to make a thicker glaze that can be spread and not basted.
Therefore, this glaze recipe will consists of four basic ingredients that include brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard and a splash of pineapple juice. The ratio of the ingredients will give you a good balance of sweetness with just a hint of a tangy flavor from the Dijon mustard.
Once mixed together the glaze will become nice and thick. The consistency will prevent the glaze from melting over the ham steak and spreading over to the potatoes and green beans.
Once heated in the oven, the glaze will break down and give the ham steak a nice outer crust as the brown sugar and honey caramelizes on the outer surface. It is an easy way to get a lot of flavor without a ton of work.
Helpful Sheet Pan Ham Steak Recipe Tips
In order to make a complete sheet pan ham steak dinner, there are a few tips that you should know so that your meal turns out perfect every time. From what type of ingredients to use to when to add them to the oven, I have it all listed here.
1. Ham Steak
Although most ham steaks are previously cooked, it is necessary to verify that before you purchase one at the grocery. Look on the front of the package, it will be labeled as fully cooked.
However, if you purchase a ham steak from a butcher shop, the ham may still be raw. The cooking time will be much different between the two, so it is important to buy a fully cooked ham steak for this recipe.
And as mentioned above, it is best to purchase a bone in ham steak whenever possible. The difference in flavor is significant!
As for the size of the ham steak, you will need about 1/2 pound per serving. Therefore, you may need to cut the meat in a smaller portion if you purchased a larger size.
Although you can go ahead and cook the entire portion. Then the next day you will have plenty of leftovers to make my Ham and Potato Casserole.
2. Potatoes
In order for the potatoes to cook properly with the time and temperature listed in the recipe card, be sure to use baby size potatoes. These potatoes are usually red or yellow in color, however sometimes you can even find purple baby potatoes.
Any of those varieties will cook up perfectly as part of a sheet pan ham steak dinner. Although it is important that the potatoes are similar in size for even cooking.
Therefore, you will need to pick out potatoes that have a similar circumference or cut them to make them equal in size.
3. Green Beans
Depending on how crispy you like green beans, you may need to adjust when they go onto the sheet pan. If you like fresh green beans that are super tender add them to the pan with the potatoes.
However, if you like them cooked, yet a little crisp when you take a bite, don’t add them until you put the ham steak on the pan.
However, don’t limit yourself to only green beans. You can add whatever other vegetable that you prefer. I have made this recipe by substituting the green beans with Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli and it all turns out amazing.
Although, depending on the vegetable that you choose you will need to adjust the baking time accordingly so that they get cooked to your preferred level of doneness.
Sheet Pan Ham Steak Recipe

INGREDIENTS
- 1 pound Ham Steak, bone in
- 1 lb. baby potatoes, cut in half
- 1 lb. fresh green beans, ends trimmed
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 1 tbsp. pineapple juice
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Then line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, aluminum foil or a silicone baking mat.
Wash and dry the potatoes. Cut them into similar sizes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
If you like your green beans super tender, add them alongside the potatoes at this time. Otherwise, set them aside.
Drizzle olive oil over the potatoes and green beans, reserving some of the oil if you are adding the green beans later. Then sprinkle on the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper (again, reserving half if you are adding the green beans later).
Toss the vegetables until evenly coated. Then place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes.
Prepare The Glaze
While the potatoes and green beans are cooking on the sheet pan prepare the ham steak glaze. In a small bowl combine the brown sugar, Dijon mustard, honey and pineapple juice. Whisk to combine.
If you are waiting to add the green beans, place them in a bowl. Drizzle the olive oil and sprinkle the remaining seasoning on top. Toss to coat.
Once the cook timer goes off, remove the sheet pan from the oven and toss the vegetables and place them on the edge of the sheet pan.
Place the ham steak in the center of the pan and arrange the vegetables (adding the green beans here if you like them still a little bit crispy) around the ham steak. Brush the top of the ham steak with the glaze.
Place the sheet pan back in the oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Brush additional glaze on the ham steak once it has been in the oven for 10 minutes.
Then add one final coating of the glaze once it has been cooking for 20 minutes. Once the ham is heated through and the potatoes and green beans are fork tender, remove the sheet pan from the oven.
Serve warm.
