There are some side dishes that instantly disappear the moment they hit the table, and these Parmesan Crusted Potatoes are definitely one of them. With their crispy golden coating, buttery flavor, and tender centers, they are the kind of potato recipe everyone reaches for first.
What makes this recipe so good is the combination of simple ingredients working together to create incredible flavor and texture. As the potatoes roast in the oven, the Parmesan cheese forms a crispy crust underneath while the inside of the potatoes becomes perfectly soft and fluffy.
Even better, this recipe requires very little prep work. There is no need to boil the potatoes first or spend extra time frying them. Everything cooks together right in the oven, making it an easy side dish for busy weeknights or special dinners.

These potatoes pair perfectly with just about any grilled meat, burgers, sandwiches, chicken, and can even be served as a breakfast item. And because the ingredients are simple pantry staples, it is a recipe you can make anytime.
Not to mention, they also make a great snack or appetizer. It is one of our favorite recipes to enjoy when watching our favorite sports team on television.
Why Parmesan And Potatoes Work So Well Together
Potatoes and Parmesan cheese are one of those classic combinations that simply belong together. The mild, creamy texture of potatoes balances perfectly with the salty, nutty flavor of Parmesan cheese.
When Parmesan cheese bakes in the oven, it becomes crispy and golden brown. That crispy layer creates the perfect coating for roasted potatoes and adds texture to every bite.
Butter also plays an important role in this recipe. It helps the cheese brown evenly while adding rich flavor to the potatoes as they roast.
The result is a side dish that tastes far more sophisticated than it actually is.
The Best Potatoes To Use
Baby Yukon Gold potatoes are one of the best choices for this recipe because they roast beautifully and have a naturally buttery flavor. Their creamy texture inside contrasts perfectly with the crispy crust on the outside.
Baby red potatoes also work well and hold their shape nicely while baking.
Whichever type you use, try to select potatoes that are similar in size. This helps everything cook evenly and prevents smaller potatoes from overcooking before the larger ones become tender.
If some potatoes are larger than others, simply cut them into quarters instead of halves.

The Secret To Getting The Crispy Parmesan Crust
The key to creating the crispy crust is placing the potatoes cut-side down directly on top of the Parmesan mixture.
As the butter melts and the cheese cooks, it forms a crispy golden layer underneath the potatoes. Once baked, that crust sticks beautifully to the potatoes when removed from the pan.
Using parchment paper helps tremendously because it prevents sticking while still allowing the cheese to crisp.
Another important tip is to dry the potatoes thoroughly before placing them on the pan. Too much moisture can prevent the crust from crisping properly.
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese also creates the best texture and flavor. Packaged grated cheese can work in a pinch, but freshly grated Parmesan melts and browns much better.

Helpful Tips For Perfect Potatoes Every Time
Do not overcrowd the pan. Giving the potatoes a little space helps them roast instead of steam.
Place the potatoes cut-side down and avoid moving them while baking. This allows the crust to fully develop.
If your potatoes are not browning enough near the end of cooking, you can broil them for 1 to 2 minutes. Just watch carefully so the cheese does not burn.
Allowing the potatoes to cool slightly before lifting them from the pan helps keep the crust intact.
A thin metal spatula works best for removing the potatoes cleanly.
How To Store And Reheat Leftovers
Although these Crispy Parmesan Crusted Potatoes are best served fresh, leftovers can still taste great the next day.
Store leftover potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, place them on a baking sheet in a 400°F oven for about 8 minutes. This helps restore the crispy texture.
An air fryer also works very well for reheating.
Microwaving is not recommended because it softens the Parmesan crust.

Easy Variations To Try
One of the best things about this recipe is how easy it is to customize. Here are some ways that I have adapted this recipe and they all turn out delicious.
- For extra garlic flavor, add a little minced fresh garlic to the butter before spreading it onto the pan.
- If you enjoy a little heat, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes into the Parmesan mixture.
- Italian seasoning works wonderfully here, but you can also use rosemary, thyme, oregano, or smoked paprika for different flavor combinations.
- Some people even enjoy adding a little shredded mozzarella cheese during the last few minutes of baking for an extra cheesy finish.
- You can also serve these potatoes with dipping sauces like ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or spicy ketchup.
Great Main Dishes To Serve With These Potatoes
These crispy potatoes pair with almost anything. They are especially good with grilled chicken, steak, pork chops, burgers, or sandwiches.
Because they are roasted in the oven, they make an easy addition to meals without requiring extra attention on the stovetop.
They also work wonderfully alongside simple comfort food meals. I especially like to make them with my Air Fryer Chicken Breast Recipe because the crispy potatoes and juicy chicken compliment each other perfectly.
However, these potatoes are also delicious served with breakfast foods like eggs, sausage, or bacon. Skip the hash browns and make these Crispy Parmesan Crusted Potatoes instead!
Why This Recipe Is Perfect For Small Meals
Many potato recipes make huge batches, but this recipe creates the perfect amount for a smaller family dinner without a mountain of leftovers.
It is simple enough for a weeknight meal but still impressive enough to serve to guests.
Because the recipe uses inexpensive ingredients, it is also budget friendly while still tasting comforting and satisfying. And perhaps best of all, it is one of those recipes that both kids and adults tend to love equally.
