Although this ingredient is most often used to make stiff peaks of cream to top desserts, here it is used to help the rolls become moist and rich in flavor. Then the rolls are topped with a butter, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice mixture which gives the rolls even more flavor.

Once they bake hat classic aroma of fresh baked cinnamon rolls will fill the air. Then when they come out of the oven all that is left to do is to spread the prepared icing over top.

You can enjoy them warm with a cup of coffee or hot apple cider, or save them for a quick snack or dessert for later. Either way they will provide you with the classic flavors of Autumn and they will definitely satisfy that sweet craving.

Ingredients For Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls

1. Refrigerated Cinnamon Rolls

Because we are making this recipe for two it is best to purchase a small can of refrigerator cinnamon roll dough. However, instead of purchasing the smaller tube of standard size rolls, purchase the Grand Cinnamon Rolls instead.

The tube of the grand rolls contains 5 large size cinnamon rolls that are perfect to use in this recipe. Each of you will get 2 pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls to enjoy and then you will have to flip a coin to see who gets the last one!

2. Pumpkin Puree

In order to make sure that you get that pumpkin flavor in each bite, pumpkin puree is added to the filling of the cinnamon rolls. However, make sure that you purchase pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling.

Although the two products are stocked next to each other on the grocery store shelves this time of the year, the two products are not interchangeable. Pumpkin puree is simply pumpkin (or a variety of winter squash) that have been cooked and then pureed.

Pumpkin pie spice is a mixture of pumpkin, spices and other ingredients that when baked gels together to make the filling for a pie. Therefore, in order to get the correct flavor and texture in this recipe, it is important to purchase only the pumpkin puree.

However, because you won’t be using the entire can of puree be sure to save the remainder to make Pumpkin Chili or Pumpkin Donut Holes.

3. Heavy Whipping Cream

As mentioned above, once the cinnamon rolls have been rolled and placed in the pan heavy whipping cream is poured over top of the dough. The whipping cream ensures that the cinnamon rolls are nice and moist and have a richer flavor than standard rolls.

4. Topping Ingredients

Melted butter, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice and combined together and placed on top of the rolls before they go in the oven. This gives the cinnamon rolls a bit of caramel flavor, but also that classic pumpkin spice flavor.

Finally, use the packet of icing that is found in the tube of cinnamon roll dough to top the rolls once they come out of the oven. It is the classic cinnamon roll topping and the added sweetness pairs perfectly with the other ingredients.

Common Recipe Variations

While this Easy Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls Recipe for Two is delicious as written, you can always get creative by adding or swapping out a few other ingredients. Here are a few common recipe variations:

Nutty Addition: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the pumpkin puree before rolling up the dough for a crunchy twist.
Cream Cheese Icing: Swap out the regular icing for a cream cheese icing for an extra layer of richness.
Drizzle of Maple Syrup: For an extra dose of fall flavor, drizzle some warm maple syrup over your cinnamon rolls just before serving.

Storing the Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls:

1. Room Temperature: If you plan on consuming the leftover cinnamon rolls within a day or two, you can leave them at room temperature. Simply cover them with plastic wrap or aluminum foil to prevent them from drying out.

2. Refrigerator: If you need to store them for a longer period, place the rolls in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Ensure they are tightly sealed to maintain their freshness. Stored this way, they should remain good for up to five days. However, be aware that refrigeration can cause the rolls to lose a bit of their softness and moistness.

3. Freezing: If you want to make the pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls in advance you can freeze them. Bake them as instructed however don’t put the icing on top. Allow the rolls to cool completely.

Then, wrap each roll individually in plastic wrap and place them in an airtight container or a resealable freezer bag. Be sure to label the container or bag with the date. When stored in the freezer, these cinnamon rolls can last for up to 2-3 months.

Reheating Cinnamon Rolls

When you’re ready to enjoy your leftover cinnamon rolls, you can reheat them to regain that warm, freshly baked flavor.

Room Temperature: If you’ve stored them at room temperature, you can enjoy them as they are or slightly warm them in the microwave for a few seconds. Just be careful not to overheat, as this can make them tough.

Refrigerator: If you’ve stored them in the refrigerator, preheat your oven to 350°F, place the rolls on a baking sheet, and cover them with aluminum foil. Heat them for 5-10 minutes or until they’re warmed through.

Frozen: If you’ve frozen the cinnamon rolls, remove them from the freezer and allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, you can reheat them in the oven following the instructions above. Once they are warm, spread the icing on top.
