This Easy Apple Fritters requires just five basic ingredients and requires no yeast. Best of all, you can cook them in your air fryer or oven and have them ready to eat in under 25 minutes!
When I first got my air fryer, I never considered using it for desserts. I was mostly interested in creating healthier versions of my deep-fried favorites, like French fries, onion rings, and of course, my favorite chicken wings.
But after months of using my air fryer and getting comfortable with how it cooks, I started experimenting with what else it could do. That’s when I discovered just how simple it is to make apple fritters.
And now that apple harvest season is here, my kitchen is overflowing with fresh apples. I’ve been putting them to use in every recipe imaginable including apple butter, applesauce, apple coffee cake, and even my Grandma’s Famous Apple Crisp.
However, one of my favorite ways to use a single apple is to make apple fritters. It is a quick and easy way to get a sweet treat on the table with very little work.
Apple Fritter Ingredients
But what I love about this recipe is that it doesn’t require any eggs or yeast. I’m a big fan of donuts, but because I have an egg allergy, it’s tough to find ones I can enjoy at our local bakery.
While there are a few specialty stores that offer egg free donuts and pastries, unfortunately, because we live in a very rural area, they aren’t nearby. So, rather than drive an hour to satisfy my donut craving, I prefer to make these easy apple fritters at home. I can stay in my comfy clothes, sip my coffee, and make them in less than 30 minutes.
However, this recipe came from a popular two-ingredient bagel recipe that uses self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. I thought, if that can make a bagel, why not try making an apple fritter with those ingredients. (See: 2 Ingredient Bagel Recipe)
Add in a little sugar, cinnamon, and some diced apples and you have the perfect sweet and satisfying treat. And of course, I couldn’t resist adding a simple glaze on top—because what’s an apple fritter without a little icing?

INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbs cinnamon
- 1 apple, large size, peeled and chopped
Optional Glaze Ingredients
1 cup confectioners sugar
2 tbs milk
INSTRUCTIONS
This recipe is extremely easy to make. The first step is to peel and chop your apple. It doesn’t matter what type of apple that you use for this recipe.
I prefer to use Granny Smith, Gala or Fuji apples, because those are the varieties that I most often have on hand. However, you can use any variety that you have in your kitchen.
Just be sure to chop the apple into small, bite size pieces. Then add all the ingredients into a medium size mixing bowl and mix by hand until a dough forms.
Then knead the dough 3-4 times to activate the self-rising flour. But be sure to not overwork the dough. Once the apple fritter dough is ready, let it sit while you prepare your Air Fryer.
Line the basket of your air fryer with parchment paper. You can buy parchment paper rounds that fit nicely inside your basket. Or if you have an air fryer oven, simply cut a piece of standard parchment paper to fit the inside of the basket.
Next, use a pastry brush and spread olive, vegetable, or canola oil on top of the parchment paper. This may seem like I am going overboard on making sure the apple fritters don’t stick to the basket.
But believe me, if you skip the oil, the fritters may stick to the paper when you try to turn them over.
Form The Apple Fritters
Divide the apple fritter dough into 4-5 even sections. Then roll each portion into a large ball. Using the palm of your hand, flatten the dough balls so that they resemble a thick pancake.
Place the dough on the parchment paper, leaving enough room between each one so that they don’t touch. Spray the tops of the air fritters with vegetable oil.
Place the basket in the air fryer and air fry for 5-7 minutes. Then using a sturdy spatula, carefully flip each apple fritter over.
Once you flip them over, spray the top with vegetable oil and continue to air fry for another 6-7 minutes. *The actual cook time will vary on the type and brand of your air fryer so begin checking for doneness around the 9-10 minute mark of total cooking time.
Oven Baking Instructions
Spray a non-stick pan or baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Then place the dough balls onto the prepared surface and flatten slightly as instructed above.
Place the apple fritters in an oven preheated to 400°F. Then bake for 14-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
Remove the pan from the oven.
Optional Glaze
While the air fritters are cooking prepare the optional glaze. In a small bowl, mix the milk and powdered sugar together until there are no clumps.
The mixture will seem thin. At this time don’t add any more powdered sugar.
Instead, set the glaze aside until the air fritters are cooked through. You will know when they are done when you insert a toothpick in the center of each one and it comes out clean.
Remove the air fritters to a cooling rack. If the glaze didn’t thicken up any, add a little more powdered sugar.
On the contrary, if the glaze is too thick, add in a little milk and stir. Then drizzle the glaze over top of each one.
Or you can dunk the top of the air fritters into the glaze and then let them finish cooling on the cooling rack. Either way works.
Give a little time to allow the glaze to harden before sinking your teeth into your Apple Fritters. Or if you really can’t wait, go for it!
