Skillet Pizza Recipe (No Oven Required) – An Easy 10 Minute Recipe

If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner option then you are going to love this skillet pizza recipe! It is the perfect meal for those busy weeknights when you’re short on time or when you are simply craving a slice of pizza and want it in a hurry.

However, say goodbye to heating up the house with a blazing hot oven. Instead, you will make the pizza in a pan right on the stove top.

A 12 inch skillet is the perfect size for making a pizza for two. Plus, with a cooking time of under 10 minutes, you’ll have dinner on the table in a fraction of the time that it would take for pick up or delivery.

However one of the best advantages of making pizza at home is its versatility. Customize your pizza with your favorite toppings to create a meal that fits your taste preferences.

Have fun experimenting with different sauces and toppings to create a unique pizza each and every time. You’ll be amazed at how simple and satisfying it can be.

In fact, the pizza cooks in so little time that you can make a few different pizzas when you are having family or friends over without the worry of not having enough room in the oven. Say hello to a new, exciting option for your pizza night menu!

Why Make Skillet Pizza For Two

Making a skillet pizza for two is a great option when you have little time to prepare dinner. In fact, it can be ready to eat before you would even have a chance to preheat your oven to make a frozen pizza.

It is also an ideal cooking method for those who don’t want to heat up the kitchen on a hot day. As much as I love to make Grilled Pizza, sometimes inclement weather puts a damper on that plan.

Plus, it’s an easy recipe that is the perfect size to serve two people. Although if you want a less traditional style of pizza, you can make Air Fryer Pizza Bagels in just about the same amount of time.

Pizza Dough Options

When it comes to pizza dough, there are a variety of options to choose from. You can make your own homemade dough, use store-bought refrigerated dough, or even opt for using thawed, frozen pizza dough.

Another option is using a par-baked pizza crust, which has been partially baked and just needs to be crisped up in the skillet. Each choice offers a different level of convenience to suit your time needs.

Refrigerated pre-made pizza dough usually comes in a 1 pound package which would make two 10 inch pizzas.

Pre-packaged or Fresh Shredded Cheese

When it comes to what type of cheese to use it is best to shred your own cheese to ensure that the cheese evenly melts across the surface. However, in order to shred mozzarella cheese it is best to freeze it first.

The cheese will become firm and make shredding a breeze. The reason that shredding your own is ideal is because prepackaged shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that can prevent it from melting evenly.

However, I also realize that most of us (me included) will opt for a bag of shredded Mozzarella, especially when time is a factor. And that is absolutely fine.

Although mozzarella is a classic choice for pizza feel free to experiment with other types of cheese as well. Provolone, Parmesan, Mexican blend and Gouda are all great choices.

Combining different types of cheese adds another depth of flavor and texture to your skillet pizza. Who knows, you may find a great combination that becomes your new favorite.

Pizza Toppings

If you prefer your pizza toppings cooked, such as sautéed mushrooms or onions, make sure to do so before placing the pizza crust in the skillet. Once you start the recipe, you will be putting your toppings on after only one minute of cook time.

When it comes to what toppings that you should add to your pizza, there are countless options. Choose your favorite combinations and get creative!

Standard Toppings:

  • pepperoni
  • sausage
  • mushrooms
  • onions
  • bell peppers
  • banana peppers

Gourmet Toppings:

  • arugula
  • prosciutto
  • goat cheese

Keep in mind that certain toppings, like vegetables, can release moisture as they cook. Therefore it’s a good idea to sauté or roast them beforehand to avoid a soggy pizza.

Additionally, don’t overload your pizza with toppings, as this can make it difficult for the crust to cook evenly and for the cheese to melt properly.

Skillet Pizza Recipe Tips

Here are some additional tips that I have learned when making pizza on the stove top:

1. Have your pizza dough near room temperature before you begin. This will help it crisp up beautifully when placed in the skillet.

2. Gather all of your ingredients and have them close by since the process comes together quickly.

3. Use a large, 12-inch cast iron or aluminum skillet for a 10 inch crust pizza.

4. Have a large enough lid or foil handy to cover the skillet so that the cheese can melt.

5. Reduce the heat to medium once you flip the crust to prevent the crust from becoming too dark in spots.

6. If you want the cheese to brown, place the skillet under the broiler after the cheese has melted. Although be sure to keep a close eye on it to prevent the cheese and the edge of the crust from burning.

After the crust cooks on the first side for 1 minute, flip and turn the heat down to prevent the crust from browning too much.
