Orange glazed ham steak is a simple recipe that is perfect for any occasion, but especially around Easter. Even though ham is usually the main dish for large holiday gatherings, this smaller version provides the same traditional flavors without requiring a full-sized ham.
Since this recipe requires a ham steak, it’s a great choice for a small holiday meal or a quick weeknight dinner. Because we often have our big family holiday dinner not actually on the holiday itself, this is our go-to meal when it is just the two of us.
The ham gets a sweet and tangy glaze spread on top which provides the ham with amazing flavor. The glaze is a combination of orange marmalade, whole-grain mustard, brown sugar, and spices. Not only does it taste delicious, it takes less than 5 minutes to prepare.

The ham steak is baked in the oven, making it an easy hands-off meal. But you can make it a complete meal by adding baby potatoes and asparagus to the same sheet pan. The entire meal will cook at once, cutting down on preparation time, but more importantly in my house, it cuts down on dishes!
The ham steak can be paired with other sides if desired, but the sheet pan method makes it a well-balanced meal with protein, starch, and vegetables all in one.

INGREDIENTS
- 1 pound ham steak, about 1 inch thick
- 2 Tbsp. orange marmalade
- 2 Tbsp. whole-grain mustard
- 2 Tbsp. loosely packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp. white wine vinegar
- 1/4 tsp. ground coriander
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp. ground allspice
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Optional Ingredients (For Sheet Pan Meal)
- 1 1/2 cups baby potatoes, halved
- 1 cup asparagus spears, pencil thickness
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, orange marmalade, whole-grain mustard, white wine vinegar, coriander, ginger, allspice, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a slow boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil (or a silicone baking mat) and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. Place the ham steak on the pan and brush each side with the glaze.
If you are making it a sheet pan meal: arrange the baby potatoes and asparagus spears in a single layer next to the ham. Drizzle them with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat.
Bake the orange glazed ham steak for about 20 minutes, tossing the vegetables halfway through. Rotate the pan if necessary for even cooking. The ham is ready when it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
Depending on the thickness of the asparagus, you may need to remove some spears if you like them slightly firm. Remove the pan from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Recipe Substitutions
This meal is easy to adjust based on personal preferences. Sweet potatoes can replace baby potatoes, and green beans or Brussels sprouts can substitute the asparagus.
If you are looking for a slightly different flavor, use Dijon mustard instead of whole-grain mustard to alter the flavor of the glaze. If you aren’t a mustard fan, or are looking for something a little sweeter, try my Honey Baked Ham Steak Recipe.
Since this is a sheet pan meal, cleanup is simple, and everything is ready at the same time. Whether making it for a special occasion or a regular weeknight dinner, this recipe provides a balanced and flavorful meal with little effort.
Making Orange Glazed Ham Steak a Complete Meal
While this recipe already includes the option of potatoes and asparagus, additional side dishes can accompany the meal to make it more filling. A simple green salad with a light vinaigrette is a nice addition.
And you can never go wrong with serving your holiday meal with dinner rolls. When it is just the two of us I will make my small batch No Yeast Dinner Rolls because they take a fraction of the time of traditional bread recipes.

For those who prefer a different vegetable, roasted carrots, sautéed spinach, or steamed broccoli are nice options. If asparagus is not your favorite, green beans or Brussels sprouts are excellent alternatives. The vegetables can cook alongside the ham on the same sheet pan or prepared separately.
If looking for a slightly different side dish to add to your plate, orange slices or a cranberry relish can compliment the flavors of the glaze. Applesauce is another option that pairs well with ham, especially if you are looking to lighten up the meal.
Other Cooking Methods For Orange Glazed Ham Steak
While baking is an easy way to prepare the ham steak, you can use other cooking methods. One option is to cook the ham in a skillet over medium heat, brushing the glaze on during the last few minutes of cooking. This method allows for more control over the amount of caramelization that you desire.
For those who prefer grilling, the ham steak can be placed on a preheated grill over medium heat. Apply the glaze to the top of the ham steak and then when flipping the ham to coat both sides. This method adds a slightly smoky flavor that goes well with the glaze.

A slow cooker can also be used for those who have more time. Place the ham steak in the slow cooker and pour the glaze over it. Cook on low for about two hours, basting occasionally.
This method keeps the ham tender and infuses it with flavor. However, if you want the glaze to caramelize you will need to put it under the broiler for a few minutes. Just be sure to watch it carefully to prevent it from burning.
Storing and Reheating Leftovers
If there are leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. The ham can be reheated in the oven at 300°F for about 10 minutes or in a skillet over low heat until warmed through.
For a quick reheating option, the microwave can be used, but the ham may dry out slightly. To prevent this, cover the ham with a damp paper towel and heat in 30-second intervals until warm.
Leftover ham can be used in other meals, such as breakfast scrambles, sandwiches, or pasta dishes. The flavors from the glaze work well in different recipes, making leftover options easy.

Not Just For Easter
This orange glazed ham steak is an excellent choice for Easter, but it is also a great option for any time of year. It is easy to prepare, requires minimal ingredients, and can be made in under 30 minutes. Whether cooking for a special occasion or a simple meal at home, this recipe provides a satisfying and flavorful dish that requires little effort.
By making this a sheet pan meal, cleanup is quick, and everything is ready at the same time. The ability to customize the ingredients makes it easy to adapt based on personal preferences.
Whether serving it for a holiday or a weeknight dinner, this dish is sure to become your next favorite go-to recipe!
