Sometimes, a simple meal can taste like the best dish that you have ever had, and that’s exactly what you get with this Glazed Pork Chops and Potatoes Recipe. Roasted potatoes and pork chops that have been brushed with an easy, homemade glaze that makes the meat tender, juicy, and oh so flavorful.
Although, I understand some people have huge hesitations when it comes to cooking pork chops. Because they are a very lean cut of meat they can turn out dry and tough if not cooked in the correct way.
However, with this recipe, you will make the BEST PORK CHOPS that you have ever had! Best of all, it is really easy to do with some basic pantry staples.
Use those basic ingredients to make the perfect homestyle glaze that will soak into the meat to make the chops super tender, juicy, and melt in your mouth delicious. Not to mention that the potatoes will be perfectly cooked as well, tender on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside.
You can even add some vegetables to the pan if you want. The addition of broccoli, cauliflower, or even Brussels sprouts makes this a complete, nutritious meal for two!
Why Bone-In Pork Chops Are the Best Choice
When it comes to cooking pork chops, bone-in is the way to go if you want the meat to become tender and juicy. You might wonder, why does it matter? Aren’t all pork chops the same? Not exactly. Bone-in pork chops have a few benefits that make them the better choice from thin, boneless pork chops.
- Flavor: The bone adds extra flavor as it cooks, making the meat more savory. The fat around the bone also helps keep the pork moist, which can be a game-changer if you’re worried about them being tough and hard to chew.
- Juiciness: Bone-in pork chops also retain more moisture during cooking. The bone acts as a heat shield, preventing the meat from drying out. You’ll get that tender, juicy texture that makes every bite delicious.
- Cooking Time: Bone-in pork chops take longer to cook than their boneless counterparts. This gives enough time for the potatoes to cook at the same rate so that dinner will be ready all at the same time. However, you will still need to put the potatoes in the oven a few minutes before adding the pork chops.
So, if you want your pork chops to be juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, bone-in is the way to go. They may take a bit longer to cook than boneless chops, but it’s well worth the extra few minutes.
The Glaze
The glaze is what takes this dish from ordinary to extraordinary. It’s a simple mixture made with just a few common ingredients.
The combination of Worcestershire Sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, oil, garlic and vinegar not only provides amazing flavor, but they also make the pork chops tender and juicy.
That is of course if you use the 3 step glazing/basting process. Yes, that’s right, you actually brush this amazing glaze over the pork chops a total of 3 times.
Do this before they go into the oven. Then again once you go to flip them. And finally, use that wonderful sauce on the bottom of the pan to coat the Glazed Pork Chops and Potatoes right before they go under the broiler.
The results are perfectly caramelized pork chops that are tender and delicious. And as an added bonus, the potatoes have also soaked up some of that sauce to make them more flavorful as well!
Steps For Making Glazed Pork Chops and Potatoes
Timing is key for a meal like this, but it’s not difficult at all. Just follow these steps and you will have a delicious dinner for two!
- Start with the potatoes: Since they need the longest cooking time, get them in the oven first. Just be sure that they are cut into similar sizes for even cooking.
- Prep the pork chops: While the potatoes are cooking, get your pork chops ready. Season them with salt and pepper. Make your glaze, then brush it over both sides of the pork chops.
- Cook the pork chops: Once the potatoes have been in the oven for 15 minutes, start cooking your pork chops. However, before adding them to the sheet pan, toss the potatoes and move them to the edges of the pan so that you can place the pork chops in the center.
- Flip and Broil: After the glazed pork chops have been in the oven with the potatoes for 15 minutes it is time to flip them. Once you turn them over, use the remaining glaze and brush the top and sides. Now it is time to place them under the broiler to finish cooking.
- Finish with more glaze: Once the pork chops are have begun to caramelize, use the juices from the bottom of the pan and brush them with the glaze one more time. Place them back under the broiler for a couple of minutes to give them that shiny finish and an extra layer of flavor.
Remove the pan from the oven and enjoy a delicious dinner for two!
